Here it is again; the time of year where we are pressured to feel peace, love, joy and gratitude.  How’s that going for you?

Everywhere you turn the message is “Buy, Buy, Buy” …targeted at making you feel you need what you don’t have.   Combine that with a dose of unrealistic expectations around family celebration and you have an emotional Molotov cocktail just waiting for a random spark of stress to light the fuse.

This is the perfect moment to make a powerful choice! Here is a unique opportunity to manage your expectations and turn your focus inside out; away from the limits of commercial giving to the powerful and unlimited giving of your heart.  Away from looking outside yourself for peace, to inside.

Where to begin?  As with any journey, you need to be clear where you are right now.  Ask yourself:

  • What are my expectations for the holidays?
  • How realistic are my desires?
  • How can I shift them to a positive, uplifting focus?

A powerful exercise to shift your expectations is to make a gratitude list – on paper! Right now, in this moment what are you grateful for in your life?  Think big and remember to include everything you can think of such as an abundance of health, friends, family, fun, wisdom, community, wealth and love.

Include your feelings of gratitude around your relationship with yourself and your spirit.

Why include yourself in the list?  Because this time of year, it can be easy to push yourself  to please others while allowing self care to take a backseat.

It is difficult to give from your heart to others when you do not give from your heart to yourself.

So start from the inside by taking time to list all the things you appreciate about yourself. Let me help you get started:

  • your sense of humor
  • your willingness to help others
  • your authenticity
  • your openness
  • creativity
  • willingness to learn
  • your generous nature…don’t stop now. You’re on a roll!

Remember happiness is an inside job. When you allow yourself to accept what a powerful soul you are, your ability to be happy will soar.  After all, you are more than your personality , your mind and your ego- you are a piece of the Universe, the Divine or whatever you call it.

Unconditional love must flow first from within if it is to reach who and what you cherish most.

So my challenge to you this holiday season is to consider the following while you are giving from your heart to others.

  • Will you commit to practicing self  love?
  • What do you need to shift to drop your critical self judgments?
  • Are you willing to open your heart to yourself and experience the beauty and power of your spirit?

Allowing yourself to do so will hearken a truly miraculous holiday transformation.  When you align with your heart, your presence automatically touches the heart of  others.

I celebrate the Light within you and invite you to allow it to shine bright this holiday season.
