Are you someone who worries a lot?
I understand because I was a champion of worry. As much as worry hindered me, I thought it helped. After all, I told myself, worry wasn’t detrimental; it was me planning against worst case scenarios. Believing this made it almost impossible to give up worry because I felt it was helping me. I thought the benefit was worth the cost.
I am here to tell you that is a load of garbage because…
Worry is the voice of fear.
Worry masquerades as good sense, but it is really another way for your inner critic to take control, block your intuition, and focus your energy on the past or the future.
Your inner critic is the always active negative voice in your head. Worrying fuels that voice and gives it more energy. Remember, your energy goes where your attention flows – – so you have control over how much worry goes on in your head. Worry is the prayer for what you don’t want.
Intuition can’t be heard or felt over the active voice of worry. Negative thoughts have a lot of energy and that intuitive voice inside will not compete with it. You need moments of stillness and calm to be more intuitive.
Finally, there is nothing to worry about when you are focused on the now – – this present moment. Worry resides either in the past or the future. Think about that for a moment.
The present moment is all there is, and when you let worry take up valuable real estate in your head, you lose the ability to be here now.
There is plenty of fear in the world that it is hard to ignore. If you watch the news, it is perfectly understandable why worry is so prominent. However, your energy is more powerful than you know.
So, what can you do? Worrying about worrying only keeps you stuck in the past.
So the next time worry comes up, try this simple technique:
Stop and take several deep breathes to be fully present.
Decide, for just one minute, to focus on love, joy or peace. Breathe in that feeling and breathe out the worry. As you breathe, feel the worry flowing out of you with each exhale and the love flowing into you on each inhale. Repeat for at least one minute, more is better, then notice how you feel.
What is different in this moment?
