Our next Holiday De-stress Strategy is all about pace.
So much about this time of year is a whirlwind. It is so easy to get over-committed, over-scheduled, over-stimulated and overwhelmed!
Consider consciously creating a change of pace. Resist accepting every invitation that comes your way. Why not pick and choose the events you are most attracted to and will enjoy (company parties not withstanding)?
When you are socializing, focus on consciously shifting your energy to the present moment by eating and drinking more slowly.
This will accomplish two things:
- First, it allows you to be fully present to enjoy the party by lingering and relishing the moments. When you are fully present, life is richer, fuller and more enjoyable.
- Second, by slowing down, you are more likely to eat and drink less and enjoy each sip and nibble more. A gift your waistline will love!
When the party is over, remember to get enough sleep! When you are sleep deprived, your body produces the stress hormone cortisol, which triggers the bodies fight or flight reaction. Not only that, cortisol causes you to get easily frustrated, cranky and can make you feel physically ill. That’s a gift you can do without!
Remember you are practicing the art of extreme self care, so find a way to relax, unwind and drift into dreamland for eight delicious hours.
